let the wild rumpus start!

So Shawn and I discovered a very important truth last Saturday - that holidays are twice as much fun when you have a kid - especially Halloween. In the past, we would usually go out to dinner, buy some candy, and then watch Charlie Brown's Halloween and call it a night. We had NO idea that we were missing out on so much.

There is an entire day dedicated to dressing your kid up in a silly costume (despite what its origins may have been)! For one day, you can put your kid in a ridiculous looking outfit and instead of being looked at strangely, people say, "how cute!" and give your kid candy! Awesome.

We spent Halloween with our friends Mike and Jill, and their son Logan. Even though Jude can't eat candy yet (despite Shawn's attempts to give him a nerd), and couldn't even hold his Trick or Treat bag, I'm so glad that we ended up deciding to take Jude Trick or Treating.

He was - as usual - thoroughly unimpressed. Nonetheless, he did amazingly well. I expected him to pull at his crown, his claws, or his tail, and to want to get down to crawl or maybe get scared with all the noise and costumes - but he didn't! He was so content to be held by Shawn or I and just looked around like he was just taking all the weirdness in.

Even pretend Wild Things have to have nourishment.

Shawn dressed up as the main Wild Thing monster (who was named Carol in the movie). I'm pretty sure I've never been more in love.

Logan, Jude and Shawn before we headed out. It's a good thing we had a GI Joe ninja to protect us!

Jude's modes of transportation - the stroller....

...and being carried by a Wild Thing.

It's pictures like these that make me think he's going to grow up to look like Shawn:

He was so sweet to gum this box open just so Mommy and Daddy could have some Milk Duds.

We tried to keep Jude up an hour late that night since it was daylight savings time in the hopes that he'd then sleep an hour later the next morning. Around 8:00 he started throwing a fit at Mike's and Jill's, so we headed home. Once we got home, however, Jude got a fresh wind of energy. Watching him push his lion around in his little costume was just too cute to NOT capture on camera.
And PS - Shawn and I tried to teach Jude to howl like Max for a few days before Halloween. He never really did get it, but he thought it was funny when we did it - which would be why you hear Shawn howling in the background. Jude also lost a claw somewhere along the way - and yet still manages to be adorably terrifying.
